The Story of Monster Dog Designs

In August 2017 we welcomed our wonderful retired greyhound Monty into our home. Even though Monty was our first dog (and we were his first humans), he quickly adjusted to his new life away from the race track and became part of the family, instantly winning us over with his quirky and affectionate personality and his big brown puppy-dog eyes.

Being a skinny sighthound, Monty is streamlined for speed with a long slender neck and head. To keep him safe when he’s out and about, Monty needs a wider collar than other breeds to protect his neck (and to make sure he can’t slip out to chase a passing rabbit!). A fellow sighthound owner introduced me to Martingale collars - fabric collars designed to close when your dog pulls on the lead, keeping them secure and comfortable – and I quickly discovered a huge demand among sighthound fans for good quality, affordable and uniquely designed collars which reflect their hound’s personality.

After purchasing a couple of lovely collars, I came across some fabric in a local fent shop which I thought would make a stylish and truly original design and decided to try making a simple house collar for Monty myself. I enjoyed doing it so much that once I had started, I couldn’t stop and Monty soon had an extensive wardrobe of house collars and Martingales. I began selling my collars on eBay and in the summer of 2018, Monster Dog Designs was born, named in honour of our beautiful boy. I soon added durable fleece-lined leads, followed by hand knitted snoods made by my very talented Mum.

Monster Dog Designs has become a real family business and prides itself on producing carefully handmade collars and accessories, finished with high quality materials to provide unique and affordable items which I hope you and your dog will enjoy.
